ARRESTING DESIGN

In the autumn of 2016, a complete transformation of the historic Hansa shopping center began. The goal – to reclaim its status as Malmö’s go-to place for fashion, food and drink.

The first step was the mall, and Tego’s work is prominently displayed here in the public spaces – a striking array of matte black cubes, lined with shimmering gold on the inside.

The cubes catch the eye with their simple yet arresting design, and are placed singly or in groups. Their presence is only strengthened by their reflections in the large glass partitions fronting the stores. The cubes are matte black with a gold interior, and are grouped in multiple arrangements. The gold is repeated on ceilings, walls and even on the escalators, part of a shared visual identity. 

The reflections of the cubes in the glass creates yet another visual impression for the viewer. The public spaces lack the usual drop ceilings. Pipes and other structural elements have instead been painted black, forming a dark canvas against which the cubes seem even more impressive.
